*Starred Review* Jack and her husband Gabe are pen (penetration) testers who check a company's security and expose possible hacking opportunities. When Jack finds her husband murdered in their home, she becomes the main suspect. Now Jack must use all her skills to prove her innocence and bring the true killer to justice. Zero Days is a shift for Ware. It is action-packed from start to end, rather than the slow burning and twisting stories she has become known for. Even with this shift, Imogen Church, the longtime reader for Ware's books, is still the ideal voice for Ware's characters. She exemplifies the 20-to-30-something female main characters in her books while also [DELETE 'BEING ABLE TO']being able to artfully displaying all the supporting characters. Jack experiences the widest range of emotions, from relief and joy to the deepest grief and incredible pain, all of which the listener deeply feels through Church's manipulation of tone and pace. Many sections take place over the phone and a sound effect is utilized to give that dialog an electronic quality, which truly envelops the listener in the experience. While this may not be the story fans expect, they will find it hard to hit pause. Expect high demand this summer! Copyright 2023 Booklist Reviews.
